Understanding BMI

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. While not perfect, it's a useful screening tool for weight categories.

BMI = weight (kg) / height (m)^2

BMI Categories

  • Underweight: BMI less than 18.5
  • Normal weight: BMI 18.5 to 24.9
  • Overweight: BMI 25 to 29.9
  • Obese: BMI 30 or greater

Note: BMI is a screening tool and doesn't directly measure body fat. It may not be accurate for athletes, elderly, or those with high muscle mass. Always consult a healthcare provider for a complete health assessment.
