Types of Mulch
- Hardwood: Long-lasting, great for trees and shrubs
- Pine bark: Acidic, ideal for azaleas and rhododendrons
- Cedar: Natural pest repellent, aromatic
- Cypress: Resists decay, holds color well
- Rubber: Permanent, best for playgrounds
- Straw: Temporary, good for vegetable gardens
Mulching Tips
- Keep mulch 2-3 inches away from plant stems and tree trunks
- Remove old mulch or rake before adding new layers
- Water the bed before and after applying mulch
- Bulk is cheaper for areas over 3 cubic yards
- Add 10% extra for settling and uneven spreading
